Forced to migrate in search of work to survive and to escape the continuous drought in Nagaur, Rajasthan, Ganpat's parents were one amongst many families to migrate.
Their strong determination to fight for life, the family shifted from their traditional folk art of making wooden puppets to create stuffed animals like camels, elephants, bulls and horses, incorporating traditional mirror work decorations and embroidered textile pieces.
These families settled in and around Delhi and besides working for themselves started imparting their knowledge to other artisans, especially women who are now form the main workforce in producing these stuffed cute animals.
Elephants have been an important part of human life in Asia and Africa for 4000 years, but with drastically reduced populations, Asian and African Elephants have now been put on the endangered species list. The main threats to Asia and Africa Elephant populations is loss of habitat, conflict with humans, poaching and capture of wild elephants.
