The name Chalcanthite derives from the Greek, chalkos and anthos, meaning copper flower. It is a richly coloured blue/green water-soluble sulphate mineral CuSO4·5H2O.
Commonly found in the late-stage oxidation zones of copper deposits chalcanthite is more common in arid regions due to it’s water solubility. It is best kept in a dry room, humidity will break down the crystals.
Although quite common naturally many of the best crystals available are Lab grown as these ones are.
